The College at a Glance
In order to facilitate higher education for the learners of Gaibandha some distinguished
personalities of the then sub-division of Gaibandha took the initative of establishing a college
here in around 1942-43. Owing to the post-war socio-economic disaster, femine, quit-India
movement etc. the establishment of the college was somewhat belated. However overcoming all
the adversities on 17August 1947 with 7 teachers and 70 students Gaibandha College came to a
being and started the Journey and on 1 march 1980 the college was nationalized. At present it
has got 81 posts for teachers on 15 disciplines. Higher Secondary, Degree Pass Course, Hon’s
Courses on 14 disciplines, Masters Courses and Masters Previous courses on three Subjects are
on run at present. Since the very eve of its establishment Gaibandha Govt. College has been
spreading education gloriously as a favorite institute for the people of this area.
In 1971 during the liberation war the students and the teachers of this college called for meetings and processions in this college premises in order to raise public opinion in favour of the liberation war.
A Good number of students joined the liberation war and many attained martyrdom. A great number of alumni of this college are holding distinguished positions in govt. and politics of the country. Brilliant results of the students in different exams have added to the glory and honour of the institute. This course of excellence, however, by the grace of Allah, will continue uninterrupted in the days ahead.
